Mind the Language Gap is a business challenge aimed at students studying French, German or Spanish in Year 11, who would like to find out about international opportunities in a major industry and put their language skills in to practice. Students will also practice key employability skills.

Overview
These are exciting times for the rail industry. Trains are getting faster and more sophisticated whilst challenging air travel to offer quick and easy journeys as well as offering a more environmentally friendly way of moving freight. The rail industry employs 190,000 people in the UK and with its many partnerships on the continent offers ample opportunity to use languages in a business context.

Who can take part?
You are invited to submit one or more teams of 5 or 6 language students to take part in Mind the Language Gap. We are aiming this primarily at Year 11 to help them get back up to speed. However we are wiling to take highperforming Year 10s as well. All the students in each team must have a common language of French, German or Spanish.
Deadline: Places are allocated on a first come, first served basis and we will continue to take applications if space is available. Please book as soon as possible to avoid disappointment as we have a limited number of spaces. Max. 3 teams of 6 students per school.
Applications: Please register your interest through our online booking system on the Events page of our website so we can keep you informed of available space. To guarantee your places please make a firm booking through our system on the same link on the Request Place button. A booking is considered firm once we have received confirmation of SLT permission to attend and names of your students. To book, you will need to register on our website and create a password so that you can return and add or modify information as needed.
Cost: £75 plus VAT per group of 5/6 students. We will issue the invoice once your booking is confirmed. Please note that once the invoice has been issued, the full £75 will be charged for cancellation unless the place can be filled by another school.
Timing: The event will run from 8.45a.m. (sign-in) for a 9.00a.m. start to 12.00p.m.
Preparation: We will send out some preparatory work for the students.
