Welcome to Northampton’s Kings Heath Traincare Facility and the National Training Academy for Rail! Each year, we at Siemens open one of our train maintenance sites to the public as part of our ‘Whistle Stop Tour’ series, and we’re holding a FREE behind-the-scenes look at our Northampton Kings Heath site on Saturday 13 October for the first time since 2012 as part of Rail Week and Year of Engineering, when we’ll also be opening up the National Training Academy for Rail for the first time!
BOOKINGS ARE NOW CLOSED FOR THIS EVENT
Visitors will see our Class 350 Desiro trains close up, including sitting in a driver’s cab and taking a walk underneath a train in the maintenance pit. You can get hands on with the technology and training involved in keeping the trains safe, reliable and comfortable for the travelling public. Visitors will also find out about careers within the rail industry and opportunities to join us, while taking part in family-friendly activities throughout the day. Allow 2 hours for your complete visit.
Here’s all the info you need to know to ahead of your visit on 13 October for those who have booked:
• Bookings are required for this event and are now closed. Those who have booked with us already can spend as long as you wish with us (we close at 17:00) however if you turn up earlier than your timed slot, we may not be able to give you entry.
• We’ll be open from 10:00 – 17:00 on Saturday 13 October, with last entry at 16:00. We reserve the right to refuse entry to anyone who appears to be under the influence of alcohol or drugs, and under 16s must be accompanied by an adult.
• The depot itself is unsuitable for children under the age of 3 years old and no buggies / pushchairs can be accommodated on site due to space restrictions. Babes in arms are welcome on site (we will have an undercover area in the car park with access to refreshments) without a ticket however won’t be able to go into the depot.
• As a working train maintenance facility, there are some uneven surfaces and unavoidable stairs to climb to visit some of the attractions. Anyone in a wheelchair or requiring assistance should please let us know in advance at mailto:rollingstock.gb@siemens.com and we will advise further. All visitors are advised to wear flat, comfortable shoes as quite a bit of walking will be involved in your visit.
• No parking is available on site (except for pre-booked disabled parking), therefore please use public transport. The site is located a short walk from Northampton train station and Northampton centre where there are large chargeable public car parks and bus station. The entrance to the site from Northampton centre / rail station is on Spencer Bridge, where a marshalled gate can be found. This is on a busy road, so drop offs here are not permitted. Anyone being dropped off should use the main Heathfield Way entrance and a land train will take you to and from the main site. Anyone requiring a disabled parking space should contact us at rollingstock.gb@siemens.com in advance and also display their blue badge on the day.
