Community Rail Lancashire are thrilled to be bringing a diverse range of presenters to Rail Week to share their stories about how and why they got to working in the rail industry. This event will give you a personal insight into what working in rail could be like for you whatever your background.
Many companies acknowledge the benefit of having a diverse workforce with a wide and inclusive approach to leadership. This is even more true for organisations which are public facing like the rail industry. Andrew Haines (Chief Executive of Network Rail) agrees that “diverse teams perform better and have greater innovation because of the variety of ideas and experiences that people from different backgrounds bring”. However, the rail industry has a way to go to be truly diverse. For example, currently only 16% of employees are female, the ethnicity pay gap is more than double of the UK average and finding statistics about the LGBTQ+ community is very hard! But this isn’t the end of the story and you could be part of the journey.
